Scratching is a normal feline behaviour. Cats scratch to mark their territory with the scent released from their paw pads every time they scratch. They also scratch to condition their claws, which means if there aren’t enough scratching outlets at home, they’d turn to your sofa, curtains, and beds. Adding cat furniture, i.e. cat scratch board and/or cat scratch pole, reduces boredom-based furniture destruction and re-directs your cat’s energy onto scratching something productive. To make the scratcher enticing, you can choose to sprinkle dry catnip or spray catnip (not included) in the desired area.
